From the Marie Kondo decluttering craze to Ikea’s staple focus on functionality – almost every single modernist design concept can link its roots to the Bauhaus movement. For a hundred years, the Bauhaus has lived and thrived as an icon in the design community. Bauhaus is a 20th century modern arts, crafts and design school in Germany that boomed into a major cultural movement. The founder of Bauhaus was Walter Gropius, a Prussian architect who hoped his experimental school would “bring together all creative effort into one whole, to reunify all the disciplines of practical art — sculpture, painting, handicrafts, and crafts — as inseparable components of a new architecture.” Gropius’ vision was definitely a success, setting in motion a modern current that still influences all spheres of design.
